The Details....

I have a few minutes and wanted to post the details of our experience before I forgot them all! :)

The Delivery:

Well, this kind of blows my mind, but both of my childrens births followed such a similar pattern! My water broke with Q a day before his due date at 12 pm, and with Maiya on her due date at 11:30 a.m. With both babies my water broke, but it didn't set me into labor, so I decided that maybe my body doesn't know how to do that on it's own!

So my water broke at 11:30 a.m. We got to the hospital around 1 pm. And then we waited, and waited and waited.... The nurses were so busy. She came in and asked me all of the routine questions, and then left us there for about 3 hours, then finally came in and said, " I called your doctor and he told me to get you started on Pitocin about 2 hours ago, but I just got busy." Well, at this point she checked me, and I was at 5cm dilation (which is what I was at my previous doctors visit, so no change.) Anyways... so then, she finally got me on the Pitocin, but a low dose and still no contractions, and then she came back a couple of hours later and said, sorry, I need to up your dose, I just got busy.... ANYWAYS! Just wanted you to understand that we were just waiting! So, finally my doctor came in around 6:45pm he said I was still at a 5 and he upped my dosage of the Pitocin.

Okay, now here comes the fun part... practically right after he left (About 6:55 pm) I felt my first contraction and it was strong! And then they just kept comin'. So, remembering flashbacks of Quincey's birth and how long it took to push him out I asked for the epidural. So the anesthesiologist came in and he was explaining everything to me and then all of a sudden I felt like I had to push! The nurse checked me and I was at 10 cm! So, no epidural! And then the nurses kept trying to get me to hold my pushes to wait for the doctor so that I didn't tear as much, but that was pretty much impossible. I held it off as long as I could, but then she just came! So, the nurses got to deliver my baby! And she was born at 7:25 pm. Wow! so fast! I decided that maybe it's good that my body doesn't go into labor after my water breaks, because I'd probably be having these babies on the car ride to the hospital!

All in all it was such a great experience. I loved my nurses and my doctor (who got there to finish the job up). And I just felt like everyone was concerned about our welfare (except for the waiting part that is... ;)) Most of all, I am just so grateful that Maiya and I are healthy and that the delivery went well.

The Name:

I know a lot of you have been wondering about where on earth we got the name for baby Maiya, and that is kind of a fun story. Ever since we found out we were having a girl we had been thinking about names for her and came up with Alix or Sarinna. Well, as the months went by we had many debates about them and I stopped liking them both altogether, not because they are bad names but because they just didn't seem to fit or feel right for some reason. So, I kept looking in our baby books trying to find something else and couldn't find anything... So, I packed the book in our hospital bag and decided we would know when she came.

While were waiting to go into labor (and waiting, and waiting), Geren and I hit the books... I think at that point we had decided to go with Alix and were looking for a middle name and came across Maiya... we both looked at each other and smiled and knew that was her name. This was decided about an hour before she was born. So, there you go, baby Maiya... there is no significance to your name other than it just felt right. When she was born we still hadn't found a middle name but while I had a sleepless night in the hospital, I was thinking about middle names and came up with Elizabeth. And I thought now that is a good Christian name!! (ha ha...) But really, I just love that name, so I told Geren (when I woke him up during one of my bathroom breaks at 3am.) that I knew her middle name and he said, "Oh yeah? What is it?" And I told him it was Elizabeth, and he said something like, "Okay, cool" and went back to sleep. So, there you go people! Our haphazard methods of name picking have just been revealed to you! My doctor said, well... so much for preparation! And I decided that basically defines Geren and I to a 'T' anyways... (no pun intended.)

Such a fast labor! Good for you! But the waiting part is so crazy...specially when the nurse told you she should of do this and that but she just got too busy!WOW!
The name is beautiful and i'm really grateful for that you just choose it in the hospital. People are keep asking us if we have a name for our little boy and when i say no or not yet, or i'm not sure...they kind of think i'm crazy, because he's almost here and we're still not sure about his name. But i know we'll know as sson as he's here. That happened with Bence.
Well- i'm happy for you guys. keep posting when you have time.

Congrats, congrats, congrats! She's adorable! (But we already knew that she would be!) I can't believe how fast your labor went, once your contractions started. I love her name. Keep us updated with lots of pictures when you have time! Congrats again!

Congratulations!!! She is so beautiful! I love the name you picked too. And I actually got emotional with your name-picking story. I think it's quite sweet. I think the fact that you just knew is perfect. (no matter how long it took!) I'm so happy for you guys.

It's a good thing you explained her name origins. I was trying to figure out if you were trying to be clever with it or not, like QT. I thought you would enjoy a list of possible puns that Jarom and I came up with:

Mighty
My Yetty
M.E.T. = Mets baseball team

She is so pretty, and in the picture of you showing off your belly in the hospital you look great! You're babies really don't look like newborns for long. Hope all is well!

I think it's special that you just knew. So I don't think it's bad at all that it was a last minute decision. It just makes sense. So good job:) She's beautiful and her name is beautiful, too.

Congrats! Sorry you had to wait so long. That's a bummer. At least you weren't having contractions. My second labor went a lot faster than my first. Which makes me nervous for my third since the hospital is much further. Oh well.

And I love the name! We'll keep watching for some more pictures of her!

Sorry for all the waiting! That's a little annoying...however, you sure did pop that cutie out fast! I'm uber-impressed! Georgia was delivered by the nurses too...when you gotta push, you gotta push ;). As for the name, I think it's beautiful! Don't worry, we don't really pick our names until the hospital either.
