Knowing Enough!

Today in Relief Society we talked about the conference talk by Neil L. Andersen called, “You Know Enough,” The talk gives an example about how a missionary should not believe that they need to know everything in order to serve a mission and to proclaim the gospel, if we know God loves us, we know enough. If we listen to the Spirit, we will be able to accomplish what we need to with that power.

I listened to the lesson attentively and thought it was nice enough, but didn't get much out of it until I came home and was fixing lunch and I had the thought that I needed to apply that talk to parenting! Becoming a Parent, like becoming a missionary, is scary because you may feel overwhelmed by the responsibility or not prepared enough. It is good to remember that God is going to help fill in the blanks of the things that we don't know and the things that we do imperfectly.

It is easy to get overwhelmed by the millions of opinions out there. Especially when those opinions are viewed as fact by the opinion giver. That is why I found comfort in knowing that as long as I am trying to teach my children by the Spirit, I know enough.

So True. Sometimes I wonder how we are going to make it in this world or more importantly, how our children will make it when they us to follow :)!!!! I like to know that I am doing my absolute best, no matter what anyone else says or does. Plus, thankfully we have the Lord on our side.

Thanks for the advice. :) very timely. I enjoyed that talk in conference but never applied it to parenting. I think it's very appropriate. :)

Megan, thanks so much for this. As we're expecting our first, I've often felt that I don't know what I'm getting into and it's all a bit overwhelming. I appreciate your thought.

Guess what Megan.. I was going to go on line and read scriptures like you said you like to do and I read ths on your blog... I want you to know that that principle has helped me for many years... After all we can do, the Lord will do the rest! It makes a parent really happy to see our children grow up in the ways of the Lord. To read what you wrote brought tears to my eyes... I am so very proud of the person that you are. I Love you Megan! MOM

You're so smart and cleaver. My thought is as long as you're trying no one has the right to say anything. They aren't in your shoes!

I like that, thanks! You kinda sound like you've had a bitter experience- is there a story behind that? One too many old ladies out in public, telling you you're doing something wrong?

Wow, thank you Megan! I've been feverishly reading books and babycenter.com so I can try to prepare to become a parent and honestly just feel overwhelmed. That's SUCH a good point.
